Hayman, Tom

Tom was recently named the “2010 INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR” for the Seattle-King County Association of REALTORS in Bellevue, WA. Tom is the first instructor outside of WA to receive this honor.
Tom’s most satisfying accomplishment during his time with The Procter & Gamble Company led to his current passion. “Helping others succeed at P&G gave me the greatest sense of purpose. I chose a real estate career after I retired from P&G because of my negotiation training and being able to help my clients. After a couple of years in real estate, I realized I could help even more people by offering negotiation training to agents across the country.”
After 3 years and over 7,500 agents trained by Tom’s Negotiation Expertise company, Tom and his new partner John Wenner founded the Real Estate Negotiation Institute to better serve the real estate industry. “Our goal is to become the premier negotiation training company in real estate. We want to train agents in world-class negotiation approaches and techniques, thus helping thousands of people around the world.”
Tom received his B.S. degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1971 and his M.S. degree from the University of Southern California in 1976. After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy, Tom served 5 years in the United States Marine Corps as a Radar Intercept Officer in F-4 Phantom Jets.
After leaving the Marines, Tom joined The Procter & Gamble Company in September 1976. As a trained negotiator, Tom negotiated national and international contracts for chemicals, packing materials, commodities, wood pulp, manufacturing services, engineering services, travel, computers, new plants, and other supply chain areas. Tom spent four years in Japan as the head of the Far East Purchases organization (1990-1994), and traveled the Far East extensively. He retired from P&G in July 2001 after nearly 25 years as a professional negotiator.
While at P&G, Tom received negotiation training from the Karrass Institute, Harvard University, and The Wharton School, while also receiving economics training at Oxford University in Oxford, England. During his time with P&G, Tom authored several negotiation training courses and was responsible for negotiation training for the Global Strategic Sourcing organization.
Tom has earned the MCNE, ABR, CNE, CSSN, GHS, GRI, SFR and e-Pro designations and/or certifications. Tom has been interviewed by U.S. News & World Report, REALTOR® Magazine, and REBAC, and has also been published in various real estate and negotiation publications.
Tom and his wife Deb have a blended family of 6 children and 7 grandchildren and he enjoys church, family, golf, reading, and sports.
